Oddbins May 23 Silent Bid Auction saw strong bidding keep the prices in a positive trend.
Demand was strong across all price levels, but particularly in the premium wine sector.
Demand for Penfolds Grange was particularly intense, the wine recovering its position as a market favourite and leader. A 1957 vintage sold for $14,101, whilst an imperial of the 1975 achieved $13,050 and the 1982 $270. Bidding for other Penfolds wines remained strong.
Shiraz based wines again dominated bidders thoughts, with Rockford, Hardys Eileen Hardy, Clarendon Hills Astralis and Three Rivers all attracting strong bidding.
The fortified wine market again remained stagnant, vintage dated Para Liqueurs proving difficult to sell. Vintage ports made a slight upward move, but still provide good value.
A small but quality selection of imported wines saw continuing interest in recognised Chateau and vintage years - Ch Cheval Blanc 1982 - $690; Ch Lafleur Petrus 1982 - $245; Ch Trotanoy 1982 - $330; and Ch d’Yquem 1971 $480 and 1976 - $490.
Oddbins are again conducting the Tasting Australia Auction to be held in October this year. Entries are now being called for this prestigious auction, to be held in conjunction with the International Wine & Food Festival. Please contact Merrilyn Middleton or Stephen Lumb for further details.
